The Auto Rod and Level – ER…
The Perfect Balance of Speed and Accuracy.
Auto Rod and Level
The Auto Rod and Level – External Reference (AR&L – ER) is the only external reference rolling profiler approved for use by the FAA for new pavement acceptance testing as stated in FAA AC 150-5370-10H. The AR&L – ER can survey a 10,000-foot (3,300m) line of survey in approximately one hour collecting an elevation data point every foot (.25m).
To obtain true profile data at that speed, coupled with the AR&L’s elevation accuracy of 1mm, the AR&L – ER is the premiere device for measuring airfield pavements.
To effectively evaluate a pavement’s ride quality, the measured data must be consistent and be able to capture all wavelengths and grade changes. The AR&L will measure the pavement’s true profile so the pavement’s true ride quality can be determined.
Using the reliable methods of traditional rod and level surveying, APR has replaced the rod with a digital mast that records the elevation reference established by a rotating construction laser. It provides the surveyor with the best meas of collecting true profile data at a fast rate of speed.
Measured with the AR&L – ER, this runway is approximately 11,500 feet (3,505m) long. This plot illustrates the long wavelength dynamics and overall grade changes that were consistently recorded by the AR&L. When assessing the runway’s true ride quality, these profile features are very important to measure accurately.
Seen here, the AR&L – ER is pushed at a comfortable walking pace on the desired line of survey.
